It's time for South Seattle Community College's famous "6-Day EV Conversion” class with Stephen Johnsen. It is a unique opportunity to learn by doing in 6 days what takes most people many months or years. In this popular course you will learn everything necessary for converting an internal combustion engine vehicle to run on electricity. The mornings begin with lectures covering everything from basic electricity to batteries, AC vs. DC motors and choosing the right components. The majority of the course is hands-on where all students get to help in the actual conversion of a gas vehicle to electric. You will learn from the experts and see first hand what tools to use and how to use them in order to make your conversion safe and successful.
This year will be one of the most exciting conversions yet using a bright red 1995 Ford Mustang and converting it into a high performance electric vehicle using the latest and most powerful conversion components. A 2,000 amp extra high voltage 640kW water-cooled Zilla controller will be paired with a high horsepower electric motor and a large pack of lithium-ion batteries! The batteries will be monitored by a high end digital BMS with in-dash touchscreen display. The battery pack will be charged from an extremely powerful Manzanita Micro 18.0 kW on-board PFC-75 charger and will use an SAE J1772tm inlet so it can plug in at public charging stations!
There is still space in the class but act fast to guarantee your spot since it will occur the week of March 19th through March 24, 2012. This class is very hands-on and yet it does not require any pre-requisite courses or knowledge - only the desire to learn. Whether you are planning to build your own EV, start a conversion business or even just want to know more about the parts in your factory built EV, this class will put you far ahead of the rest.
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday 8:30 am - 5:30 pm; 6 sessions starting March 19, 2012,
ending March 24, 2012.
Class Fee: $925.00
Location: SSCC, Automotive Technology Building (AUT), Rm. AUT 106. Seattle, Washington.
