EV drivers as changemakers powered by passion

When your mantra is “Torque!” it’s hard not to convince tens of thousands to go electric.

By April Bolduc: President, Electric Auto Association

Passion led us here

Consider this. The Electric Auto Association is the largest grassroots nonprofit in the world made up of volunteers that educate to about driving electric to thousands each year who are:

  • the EV curious

  • new EV drivers

  • renewing leases

  • long-time EV drivers

By doing so they sell thousands of EVs annually, all in the name of just seeing more EVs on our roads. Mind-blowing, right?

Our chapter volunteers are purely powered by passion as they talk neighbor-to-neighbor in their communities about the benefits of driving electric cars.

The Electric Auto Association is the organization EV industry leaders turn to when they need local EV experts to educate at events. And going virtual hasn’t stopped us. It’s shown how we can amplify our voices in new ways and reach broader audiences.

(But yes, we’ve surely missed hosting test drives.)

I’ve personally hosted hundreds of EV events through both my 15-year career in the EV industry and my volunteer efforts. Each one demonstrates there’s no substitute for a one-on-one conversation that validates the electric driving experience.

My three favorite mantras are:

There’s an electric car for every lifestyle.

EVs are fun to drive, easy to charge, and low-cost to maintain.

Torque. Just plain torque.

As the new Electric Auto Association President appointed by the National Board, and most recently your treasurer, I want to share this proud feeling of leading such an organization with an inspired board and membership that are built on years of EV momentum. Today, between our email newsletter and Facebook followers alone we reach more than 50,000 each month.

I’ve partnered with the Electric Auto Association on EV test drive events since the first mainstream EVs hit the roads in 2010. My first EV was the all-electric BMW Active E demonstration car. I’ve leased two Fiat 500e’s since then, and am now in the market for my next EV (send me your thoughts!).

There’s no more exciting time to be a part of the transportation electrification movement than today and I shared these thoughts on a recent podcast on what the EV industry has in store.

Electric Auto Association chapters are truly the heartbeat of our organization and please join us in our efforts by both becoming a member and attending one of our many free National Drive Electric Week events.

If you have some ideas of your own, please share them with me at president@electricauto.org so we can continue to work together and grow the adoption of electric cars on our roads.
