EVA President Elaine Borseth at 2023 North American International Detroit Auto Show
EVA President Elaine Borseth spent the last few days representing the EVA and EV drivers at the 2023 North American International Detroit Auto Show. Invited to speak at the Mobility Global Forum, Elaine led a discussion geared towards the future of mobility and used her position as representative of the ever growing EV advocate network to make it clear that EVs are here to stay. Joined by representatives from Consumer Reports and Ford for deep discussion into how EVs will shape the future of transportation for all, they remarked on the progress made so far in EV adoption and infrastructure, and EVs will play a greater role in the future of mobility.
Elaine also brought up the topic of our ongoing EVA petition for GM to keep its commitment to keeping EVs affordable. With the Bolt on the way out and the newly announced one likely at least a year away, we're counting on GM to keep the upcoming Equinox EV at the stated $30,000 price point, as it has the potential to become one of the most popular EVs...if they can price it right. Many in the audience and online agreed, as the petition now sits at just over 945 signatures. At the end of the autoshow, our team will deliver the petition to GM executives, including CEO Mary Barra, who will also see all of the associated comments from those signers. Tesla and VW had test drives available inside the auto show at a dedicated EV test circuit indoors, which is a trend we’ve been seeing at other North American auto shows in the last few years. It’s a great way to demonstrate the vehicles in a more accessible and novel setting. We also got our first glimpse at the Mustang Mach E Rally- it will be participating in the Rebelle Rally this year, which is the first women's off road rally in the United States. It’ll start in North Lake Tahoe and end in the Imperial Sand Dunes. Ford representatives mentioned that based on customer data for the F-150 Lightning, 98% of their owners say that they'll never drive a gas vehicle again. That sort of shift in what was once a very EV skeptical base is a very good sign for the future of EVs!
